I have been waiting for Wilder Cromwell’s story since that little hint about him meeting with his high school teacher, Catherine Jenkins in Heartless Monster.

Wilder Cromwell is the complete opposite of his twin, Rome. Where Rome dominates and has a tough exterior, Wilder is more compassionate and thoughtful. It’s that thoughtfulness that draws him to his high school teacher, Catherine Jenkins.

Catherine is married to the mayor of Willow Creek and it was gut wrenching to see how much he terrorized her. Rachel, as always displays grace when writing her female characters, and does a great job forewarning readers of triggering subject matters.

I am glad that Wicked Scandal picks up slightly after Heartless Monster, where we find Grant Cromwell announces his candidacy to run first mayor. I love the Cromwell family and while I was invested in Wilder and Catherine’s story, I want to know more about the rest of the siblings, especially Callan, who was hinted to be going down the wrong path.

Ever read a book where you couldn’t wait to see what happens to the bad guy? This is that book. I couldn’t put the book down. There was so much suspense and hints left and right to keep my attention.

This was my 1st reversal age gap and I liked that both focal characters were written in a way that if age wasn’t mentioned at all, you wouldn’t know there was an age gap. Wilder doesn’t come off like a kid who is checking out teacher. He’s a mature male who knows what’s right, what’s wrong and knows what’s in his heart to make Catherine feel loved and safe.

I fell in love with Catherine. She was so fragile and broken, yet on the inside she grew stronger with every kind word and every touch Wilder gave to her.

I want more of the Cromwells. This was so good. Another 5 star ⭐️ read for Rachel Leigh
