Pretty Reckless by L. J. Shen: How the Tin Man Fell for Skull Eyes

I initially had  mixed feelings about this book and considering that this is the 1st book in the All Saints series, I felt on the fence while reading it!

In terms of the leads? I liked the character of Penn Scully more than I did Daria Followhill.  Being my opinion and solely that, because I know many may have loved this book, however, I grew frustrated at times with Daria.  While I understood in some ways the reason for her behavior, there were times where I thought her behavior wasn’t warranted.

Penn, however, the boy from the wrong tracks, the boy who wants what anyone wants; security, love and a future, I could truly relate to him.  I connected with him so much.  He wasn’t written as a jerk, but as a young g man who grew tired of being walked all over and taken advantage of by people he thought should be there for him.

The family dynamic from the Followhill?  I loved Penn’s descriptions of them in his POV, especially that of Melody Followhill.  I cringed at times watching the way she blatantly disregarded Daria. My heart broke for the lack of care for her daughter, and how she showered affection to a vapid wannabe that was Via. Jaime, her father? I loved him.  He can relate and connect with both Penn and Daria without forcing it.

I did love Penn and Daria’s slow developing feelings for one another, and let’s be honest, Penn was in love with her from the very moment he laid eyes on her.

Overall, this was a good story. I’m ready to dive into Broken Knight, the second in All Saints series.
