BOOK REVIEW

Jennifer Millikin’s Here for the Cake is fake dating at its finest.

Paisley Royce and Klein Madigan, two former college classmates find themselves coming face-to-face after eight years:

Can anyone imagine going to the wedding of their sibling and ex?!? Not only having to go but having to find someone to go with as a fake relationship? The plot alone grabbed my attention.

This book was written with so much imagery that I felt as if I were there; and that’s a good thing.

I loved how Klein, who has a finesse with words is gun shy when it comes to being social. On social media. His use of words when talking to others is charming, and as you go further into the book, you’ll understand why his use of words makes him stand out.

Paisley is too sweet and giving for her own good, but I was cheering her on throughout, because I knew that overtime, her time with Klein would have her dropping her protective armor and seeing things clearer through his eyes.

This book is slow burn. Jennifer doesn’t rush to throw these two between the sheets the minute they get together. She paces their time together and while there is open door spice, it’s done in delicate descriptions. Every moment together shows how their relationship gradually builds.

Here for the Cake is the perfect beach read for the summer
