I thought when I picked up Ashley Poston’s

The Seven Year Slip, I found pure gold. I was wrong. Ashley has managed to win me over with her 1st novel, The Dead Romantics

SUMMARY

The Dead Romantics weaves a tale of Florence Day, a writer who finds herself becoming the ghost writer of a famous author. After finding herself brokenhearted by someone she believed was her happily ever after, Florence, stuck on finishing the latest novel, no longer believes in love or happily ever after endings. When she meets her dashingly handsome editor Benji Andor, she believes she can ask for an extension, but when he refuses, she believes her writing days are good as dead.

Florence’s world flips upside down when she learns her father has died, forcing her to return to the hometown that ran her out for being too different than them. Now back at home, Florence must come to terms with her decisions to stay away and figure out why a ghost that looks very much like her handsome editor is standing outside of her family’s funeral parlor.

REVIEW

This was such a great read. I love the similar connection between Florence and Benji; both believing they were not worthy of receiving love. Florence, who was betrayed by a boyfriend, stole her belief in love and everything she thought came with it, while Benji was in love but put priorities ahead until he too became betrayed.

I loved the entire Day family. Carver and Alice, Florence’s siblings are a hoot. You can see just how different each of them are. Carver, the romantic, who wants to marry his boyfriend, Nicky in the funeral parlor and Alice, who took after her father’s funeral home passion and has unresolved anger toward the big sister who she thought was her everything.

Benji gave Florence the one thing she needed; closure not just in her writing but closure with the past that haunted her present. And Benji got he always craved, someone who had faith not only in happily ever after but also in him.
